Innovative University Faculty Members Selected to Research Higher Education Topics

Hoboken, NJ – November 13, 2017 – John Wiley and Sons, Inc. (NYSE: JWa and JWb), today announced the names of its fifth cohort of Wiley fellows—a group of distinguished faculty selected from the network of Wiley University Services partner universities. Wiley University Services, a provider of services and technologies that help higher education institutions better support the student lifecycle, identified these Fellows for their efforts to catalyze teaching and learning innovation on their respective campuses.

This newest cohort of Fellows, all of whom are either veteran online instructors or leaders in innovative teaching and learning solutions on their own campuses, will join members of the fourth cohort to meet as a group in Orlando, FL for the first time at the Online Learning Consortium’s 23rd Annual International Conference on November 15-17, 2017.  The Fellows will work in small project teams to research and create content around relevant topical areas – examples include digital credentials and discipline-specific practices – to cultivate insights and recommendations that benefit Wiley’s university partners, faculty, and the broader higher education community.

On the basis of their distinguished record of accomplishment in their profession, as well as an enthusiasm for new pedagogical and technological approaches to their instruction, Wiley selected the following members and research topics:

Sonja Walti:  American University
Bobby Goldwater: Georgetown University

“We’re very excited for the research and ideas that our newest Faculty Fellows cohort will generate around these important higher education topics,” said Wiley University Services’ Managing Director, Greg Finkelstein. “The program’s initial purpose was to create an opportunity for our institutional partners’ online faculty to come together to discuss and exchange ideas with other faculty in different disciplines, universities, and geographies. We believe innovation results when faculty work in an interdisciplinary manner and challenge convention. Our goal is to listen to input from our Faculty Fellows and ensure we’re aligning our resources and services to most effectively benefit our partner’s needs.”

Wiley began the Faculty Fellows initiative in 2013 to foster a community of practice among partners focused on innovative teaching and learning, and to guide the development of its evolving set of on campus, online, and hybrid services, solutions and technology.
