Ranku: How It Works Degree Marketplace

Highlight All Programs in One Centralized Location

The Degree Marketplace is the student-facing component of the Ranku platform. It’s where prospective students land when they search for a type of program, a specific program, or a specific institution or university system in a search engine.

Here prospective students can quickly search for, find, and compare information on all of an institution’s programs, even those from different schools within a university or institutions within a university system. Campus and hybrid programs can be included as well as online if appropriate.

Because institutions control the content, they can ensure that it aligns seamlessly with their editorial guidelines.

Maximized Search Efficiency for Faster Results

One of the distinguishing features of the Degree Marketplace is the ease and speed of the search process. Research shows that potential students exploring higher education opportunities average 15 searches before they request information.* In addition to providing a convenient location for all of an institution’s programs, the Degree Marketplace makes it even easier for prospects to find the one they’re looking for with five ways to search:

  • In a search bar
  • By school (where relevant)
  • By field of study
  • By field and degree level
  • By degree level

These options allow prospective students to search in the way that best suits them and directs them to programs fast—the platform is designed to connect students with the program they seek in no more than three clicks.

Streamlined and Consistent Information

The Degree Marketplace features a proven template that organizes information about a college or university’s programs into consistent sections, making it easy for potential students to quickly find and compare the facts and details they need to determine whether the program is right for them. Schools can provide such specifics as:

  • Admission requirements
  • Prerequisites
  • Tuition
  • Modality or location
  • Courses
  • Online program features
  • Total credits
  • Time required to complete the program

Customized Suggestions

When a visitor selects a program and navigates to the page with information about it, the platform will suggest similar programs at the institution or university system that the prospect might also be interested in. This feature supports their research process, presents other options within the institution or system, and ensures that they receive all the information they need to make an informed decision.

Technical Capabilities and Features

The Degree Marketplace offers technical innovations for additional insights and convenience that benefit both prospective students and institutions:

  • For system-level partners, geolocation can be incorporated into search results based on the IP address of the user.
  • Prospective students can log in with their LinkedIn accounts to bookmark programs of interest.
  • The Request for Information function can be set up to route leads directly to the institution.

Get Up and Running Fast

The Degree Marketplace is easy to get up and running. Existing content from existing institutional websites can be entered into the template quickly, and there’s no need for labor-intensive design or developer services.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What makes it easier for prospective users to find programs on the Degree Marketplace as opposed to our institution’s website?

The Degree Marketplace aggregates all of the programs from each department, school, college, or institution within a system into one location. Instead of searching for and through a number of different websites to learn about all of the available programs or having to navigate to pages for different school or colleges, they can find everything in one easily searchable platform.

Q: Why is giving prospective students five ways to search the Degree Marketplace significant?

Research shows that potential students conduct a lot of searches before they convert to leads—an average of 15.* Offering them more ways to search cuts down on the number of searches and time to find the information they are seeking. The design of the Degree Marketplace helps potential students find program information in three clicks or fewer.

Q: Is the Degree Marketplace customizable?

Institutions can choose which programs to include and which types of information to provide. For example, if a university does not wish to provide tuition information, the layout of the page will adapt (see the Editing Suite page for more information). Institutions also have total control over the content they upload—including text, colors, and images–so they can be sure that it aligns with brand guidelines and overall messaging.

Q: How was the information to include on the template determined?

Wiley looked at data on what kind of information prospective students found most relevant and useful in making a decision about their education and included those on the template.
