Employee Spotlight: Wes Miller

Spotlight On: Wes Miller, Director of Content


Wes Miller enrolled in the University of Central Florida with big dreams — becoming a Broadway star. "My first show ever was a production of West Side Story, and I immediately fell in love with the art and the people," Miller said. "When the time came to declare a major, musical theatre seemed a no brainer." Forgoing the standard break, Wes opted to knock out more courses toward his degree during summer terms and quickly realized he could earn a second degree in only one more semester. He used this opportunity to explore his other passion — advertising. As a result, he graduated with a BFA in musical theater and a BA in advertising and public relations.

"I'm a firm believer that you should do what makes you happy, and I knew that I would be completely fulfilled either on the stage or in an advertising and PR firm. The question was which path would be the first to present an opportunity." Just a few weeks shy of graduation, Disney offered Wes a job as a vocalist and actor.

While at Disney World, he performed in many shows across multiple parks. But since his primary stage, the Hoop-Dee-Doo Revue, only had evening performances, Wes decided to fill his days pursuing his other passion — advertising and creative marketing. "Funny enough, I got a second job at a marketing agency out of boredom. I had extra time, and a passion for the work, so it seemed like a win-win. I was Don Draper by day and a singing cowboy by night."

Before ultimately taking a position as a content manager at a digital agency overseeing the content strategy and copywriting for Sam's Club, Wes interned briefly at a PR firm, followed by a stint as a marketing coordinator with a small entertainment marketing agency.

In his current role as Director of Content, Wes leads a team of content marketing managers (strategists) who create actionable, clear, and engaging content and creative strategies that support prospective students and entice them to take action. The team works cross-functionally with other marketing team members to ensure Wiley succeeds in meeting students' needs in their journey.

"What do I love most about my job? It's a tie between the people I work with and the conversations I get to have with faculty during the program launch process. I learn so much every day." Wes says that one of the most rewarding things about working at Wiley is knowing that you're helping students fill a skills gap, empowering them to take the next step in their journey. Plus, it doesn't hurt that soaking up all of this higher education knowledge helps his Jeopardy performance.

Wes is a proud resident of Winter Garden, FL, where he lives with his husband and three-year-old son. They love driving their golf cart to restaurants, breweries, and shops on the weekends. They also love to go to the theme parks and ride their bikes along the West Orange Trail.

"People tease me all the time that between living in Florida and owning a golf cart for weekend transportation, I'm basically a retiree — all that's missing is Monday night bingo. I like to laugh and say, 'that's ridiculous; bingo is on Tuesday night.'"
